PETERBOROUGH OPERA

Peterborough Opera has the aim of providing an opportunity for people to take part in and watch live opera productions in Peterborough. An average year will see us perform a handful of spring/summer concerts, a fully staged opera in October half term, and a Christmas carol concert in December. The latter two usually take place at Peterborough’s Key Theatre.

PETERBOROUGH OPERA GROUP – PRODUCTION DONIZETTI Elixir of Love on 28th, 29th and 30th October 2010 at Key Theatre.

Conman “Dr” Dulcamara finds the village people are easy targets when he visits with his lotions and potions and they are keen to buy. But one peasant Nemorino is desperate for a special medicine – a magic potion to make lovely and wealthy Adina fall in love with him and reject his dashing rival Sgt Belcore. Luckily, Dulcamara has already re-stocked his supply of Love Elixir – by re-labelling bottles of ordinary red wine! So he sells one to Nemorino. All does not go according to plan however…..

Composer Donizetti wrote this opera very quickly in the early 19th century and it has become one of his most popular, including the well-known wistful song Una Furtiva Lagrima – “a secret tear”. This is an evening full of hummable tunes, glorious melodies, lots of fun and… nobody dies!

Sung in English, it is led by renowned Musical Director Fraser Goulding with Shirley Burchell returning once again as Producer.
