Peterborough Opera is gearing up for its Autumn production of "The Elixir of Love" on 28th, 29th adn 30th October 2010 at the Key Theatre under inspiring musical director Fraser Goulding. It is really fantastic that an organisation producing full productions of grand opera exists in a place like Peterborough and confirms yet again the strength in depth of musical talent available locally.
They are now getting into full swing of their rehearsals but for a couple of weeks yet (as of 23rd July 2010) there are opportunities for more singers to join the project, in particular altos. If you are interested in taking part in a full performance of one of the most famous operas in the repertoire for this limited commitment, take a look at the details on their web page on this site. On the 3rd July the Cathedral resounded to the sounds of Beethoven's 9th Sympnony Choral by City of Peterborough Symphony Orcgestra joined by PMM members Gildenburgh Choir, Peterborough Choral Society and St Peter's Singers, also including Cantus Polonicus. On 10th July Peterborough Male Voiced Choir fielded its greatest ever event, the inspiring and very moving "Sing for Heroes" concert.
With PMM members, Peterborough Cathedral Music Association also mounting a major concert on 17th July, it can be tryly said that 2010 is being a vintage year for classical music in Peterborough and we can all be truly proud to have such a wealth of talent available. |
